The 8 million year old clay from the Upper Miocene has been used for production of bricks at the Gram Brickyard during the last 300 years.
Today the clay pit is kept open to enable the public to collect fossils.

The clay pit is open all year all day.
Entrance fees: "Gravekort" 25,00 DKK.
Combination ticket (Clay pit and museum) 40 DKK.
Children under 6 years are free.
Only common fossils may be kept. All fossil skeleton remains, fossil teeth or other exceptional finds must be shown to the attendant at the Clay Pit.
The pit is part of Museum Sønderjylland.
